MEND
MEND provides programmes, services and resources to help children and families learn how to improve their health, fitness and the way they feel about their bodies. All of these elements help families manage their weight better and lead healthier lives, contributing to national and international efforts to prevent and treat overweight and obesity in children.
What is the MEND Programme?
MEND – Mind, Exercise, Nutrition.....Do IT!
The MEND Programme is a fun course for families with children aged 7 to 13 whose weight is above the healthy range for their age and height. It runs twice a week after school in two-hour sessions over 10 weeks.
The Programme helps children and families manage their weight better and lead healthier lives. It was developed by child health experts and research shows that it really works. With the support of their parents or carers, children learn how to improve their health, fitness and the way they feel about their bodies.
If your family joins a MEND Programme, you will learn about nutrition and how to eat a balance diet. You’ll also learn tips on how to become more active, and be shown clever mind tricks to help keep up your motivation. You will make lifestyle changes gradually so that you can stick to your new healthy lifestyle and you will be shown skills on how to change your attitudes towards food and exercise so you can feel fitter, healthier and happier – for good.
The Programme is valuable but offered FREE to families as MEND has secured local, regional and national funding partners to ensure that nobody misses out on this life-changing experience. To find out more about the programme, click on the logo below.
