Racquet Skills Festival is ACE

Over 75 boys and girls from Year 3&4 took part in the second annual Torbay Sport Partnership’s Racquet Skills Festival at Torquay Tennis Club on Wednesday 14th July.

The festival was designed for children of all abilities to come along and practice different skills and techniques, which they can then use in a variety of sports. The children, from a mixture of schools from across Torbay, were split into small groups; and they moved around a number of different stations, led by young leaders from Westlands School.

At the end of the event each child was given a certificate for participating and each winner from the smaller groups was given a voucher by Torquay Tennis Club. The voucher entitles them to FOUR FREE coaching sessions on a Saturday morning.

Tom Hayne, Torbay Sport Partnership’s Competition Manager said “This is the second time we have run this festival and the number of young children attending has risen dramatically from last year’s festival. We couldn’t run this festival without the support of everyone at Torquay Tennis Club especially Steve Maslen and Kevin Durney; and we are looking forward to next year’s event”.

John Julyan, Partnership Development Manager added, “This is another brilliant example of schools and community sports clubs working effectively together. We are committed to providing more quality opportunities for our young people and would welcome more clubs to come forward and link with the work taking place in schools”.
