The Partnership
About the Programme
All Thirty five primary and special schools, eight secondary schools and 1 FE College in Torbay are included in the Torbay Sport Partnership.
A School Sport Co-ordinator is based in each of the eight secondary schools and is responsible for working closely with a family of approximately four primary schools as part of the National PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP).
The Partnership Development Manager, who is responsible for managing the programme, is based at Paignton Community & Sports College.
Focus of the Torbay Sport Partnership
- to improve and increase opportunities for young people to compete and take part in a wide range of physical activities, school sport and Out of Hours learning activities.
- The School Sport Partnership is a key element of the Government's drive to provide the opportunity for all young people to access a minimum of 5 hours of high quality Physical Education and sport each week as stated in the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People.
- The Torbay Sport Partnership also helps to enrich the lives and benefit the health of the children living in Torbay.
Our Work plan includes
Creating opportunities and encouraging all young people to access a variety of activities and take part in PE and sport.
Using PE and sport to improve young people's self esteem and confidence and so help to raise standards in all areas of the curriculum.
Develop high quality and appropriate competition structures in line with the National Competition Framework.
Providing training opportunities for teachers and other adults.
Provide opportunities for young people to take sports leadership qualifications and gain placements within the community.
Create links between schools and clubs
Work with coaches to support the delivery of out of school hours clubs
Links and Business
The Torbay School Sports Partnership will be working closely with The Youth Sports Trust, Sports Leaders UK, Torbay Council, Torbay Sports Council, Sports Clubs and other agencies interested in promoting the benefits of sport and physical activity to young people.
We are also interested in working closely with the business community in Torbay. Opportunities exist for companies wishing to sponsor sports events, projects, training and challenges for young people.
