Playing Career

I started playing football when I was 8 years old at Eden park primary school and played in the A team 1 year below for 2 years. I joined a youth club, Brixham Grasshoppers and played for them up to under 18s, winning every trophy each year. I represented Torbay schools and Devon schools at all levels. I turned down Southampton and Plymouth Argyle to sign school boy forms at Torquay United. At 14 years old, I played for the youth team and reserve team and 1st friendlies until the age of 19, when I had a contract agreement terminated, due to financial cost cutting.  I then went on to play in Cyprus - 1st Division for Apeol Nicosia and played indoor semi pro in the USA. I returned to play semi pro in the western league for various premier clubs.

I have played for LOTS of various local clubs and I'm currently at Brixham United FC.

Coaching Career

20 years as a coach, I have gained the 'UEFA  A' completed coach and the 'Tutors license' - Such qualifications have allowed me to work at all levels: youth, senior and professional. I have coached at Plymouth Argyle for 5 years, on a full time basis, under Peter Shilton, Neil Warnock, and Mick Jones. In that time, I  have worked with the Youth Professionals, 1st and reserve team, as well as working with the school of excellence.

I have coached and managed College soccer teams in the USA -  both men's and women's teams.

I have formed Academy Soccer Camps and  I still enjoy working with the young players to help develop their full potential. I also work in both Primary and Secondary schools in the bay, with the support and reccommendation from The Torbay Sport Partnership.

Also, as part of the Devon FA coaching education programme, I work for the FA as a tutor, delivering FA level 1 and youth module courses.

Playing Career

I started playing golf at the age of 13 - sneaking out on the course with my Dad in the evening.  I was also very much into Cricket at the time but had to choose one, so I went for golf.  Good decision!  I got down to a 3 handicap at the age of 14 and represented Devon at Junior, 2nd team and 1st team level.  I turned pro in September 2006 and have had some success in my professional playing carrier -  including Pro-Am wins and good order of merit finishes.

Professional Career

I went to Birmingham University to study the PGA's first ever Hons degree and I was a member of the first cohort of students to graduate. Since then, I have developed a very successful junior academy at Churston Golf Club and launched the South Devon first FE Golf Academy at South Devon College. I work extensively in the community and
work in both Primary and Secondary schools - with the support and recommendation from The Torbay Sport Partnership.

This is me at Turnberry Golf Club, Scotland in the British Open qualifying rounds.

Pete Muskett

Pete is the Torbay RYA OnBoard Development Officer and Community Sports Coach.  He has been in post since January 2007.

Pete’s been a club sailor since the age of about 12 and an instructor for the last 8 years.  He has taught dingy sailing in a number of countries including Greece, Turkey, Antigua and France as well as across the UK.

Pete’s job involves providing access to sailing for young people in Torbay and has now taught youngsters from more than half of the schools in the area.  In addition, Pete helps to link schools with local clubs to provide taster sessions and access to club membership.  Most of his work is at beginner level and then the clubs provide further opportunities.

The RYA OnBoard scheme is trying to get 500,000 young people out sailing with a resulting 10% take up of the sport. http://www.ruob.co.uk/index.html

When asked what other opportunities that Pete enjoys, he says,

“I’m very boring I'm afraid, I go sailing.”

Here’s Pete aged 11 doing his very first sailing course.
